They know how the system works... do you?

Welcome to BC - here's your auto accident survivor's guide

The first thing I did upon moving back to Vancouver after living in Ontario for a decade was buy a latte and sit on the beach. It was good to be home.

The second thing I did was get in a car accident. Yup. I was definitely back in Vancouver. Luckily, no one was hurt, so all I had to do was report to ICBC, pick up my rental and flinch at the sound of brakes for the next two years.

However, tens of thousands of people are injured in auto accidents in BC every year, and for them the experience is much more difficult. Navigating BC’s complex medical and legal insurance system is a daunting task, especially when you’re already shook up from a car accident.

Luckily, there’s now a guide to help people through the process. The Auto Accident Survivor’s Guide for British Columbia offers tips for every step of the process from what to do at the accident scene to how to appeal judgments all the way up the Supreme Court. Included are sections on medical treatment and rehab programs, dealing with claims, information on independent medical examiners, going through the trial process and much more.

Unfortunately, this is a useful guidebook to keep in the car at all times.
